You do not need to learn every model or node before making your first image. Work through one small project and save a baseline you understand.
Your first four steps
- Install ComfyUI or follow the RunPod cloud setup. Success check: the interface opens and you can load a basic template.
- Generate your first image. Success check: you can explain the checkpoint, prompt, sampler, decoder and save nodes.
- Write a prompt for your model. Success check: changing one phrase produces a comparison you can understand.
- Try a second model with its own workflow. Success check: you know which files and settings changed—and which did not transfer.
When something breaks
Read the first meaningful error, identify the node that produced it, and check its input or selected file. Reduce the graph to the smallest failing step. Keep your last working workflow before updating dependencies. For memory errors, first reduce batch size, resolution or video length.
Keep a troubleshooting note with your ComfyUI version, node versions, model filenames and the exact error. Remove keys, private inputs and client information before sharing it.
